Hairdressing education is undergoing a transformation with the introduction of Sassoon Connect in the UK. This global initiative aims to integrate Sassoon’s teaching methodology into schools, colleges, and salons, offering students an additional qualification alongside their standard training. The program seeks to enhance educational standards while addressing challenges like teacher retention and skills development.
Sassoon Connect offers a structured curriculum focused on cutting, colouring, and barbering, divided into three modules. Each module includes comprehensive teaching materials and digital content, designed to fit seamlessly into existing curriculums. Teacher training is delivered through a step-by-step format, combining live guidance with hands-on practice, and can be tailored to suit institutional schedules.

This month, West Suffolk College became the first Further Education (FE) College in the UK to adopt the program. Karen Baldwin, Lecturer at the Hairdressing Eastern Education Group, sees this as a valuable addition to their offering: “The Sassoon Connect Programme gives our Level 2 students a unique opportunity to earn a certificate from a globally recognized brand, which could improve their career prospects.”
Students, too, are responding positively. Rebecca McLachlan, a Level 2 Hairdressing student at West Suffolk College, shared her excitement: “Having the chance to be part of this program and earn a qualification recognized worldwide is a fantastic opportunity for my career progression.”

Beyond schools, local salons are also recognizing the potential impact of the initiative. Neil and Lisa Bell, owners of Charlie Milz Hair & Beauty in Stowmarket, highlighted the program’s practical benefits: “A higher standard of education means students are more prepared to work in salons, which benefits employers like us.”
The initiative also seeks to address broader challenges within the industry. Tina Robinson, Global Education Sales Director at Vidal Sassoon, points out the importance of consistent training for apprentices. The program combines in-person guidance with digital resources to reinforce learning and help students develop a strong foundation in hairdressing techniques.
James Greaves, Creative Operational Director, emphasizes the program’s impact on training educators: “By equipping teachers with structured methodologies, Sassoon Connect not only improves the learning experience for students but also supports teacher development and retention.”

While Sassoon Connect is still in its early stages in the UK, its potential to shape hairdressing education is clear. By offering resources and training opportunities, the initiative aspires to contribute to the growth of well-rounded professionals in the hairdressing industry.
